Al’s Variety

Longtime De Leon teacher and High School Principal Al Strasner, opened a variety store on August 17, 1946.  It was initially located north of what is now De Leon Auto (above) but was moved to the building immediately north of Weavers After Coy Otwell took over Bud’s Cleaners and closed Coy’s Cafe in July 1948.  Al closed his store in the early 1950s and became a teacher.  Its a good thing he made the change for a lot of the material in this website came from things he contributed and a lot of De Leon students learned from him the little history they wished to retain.
