Anthony Hotel

Demolition of the old Lester Hotel began on July 18, 1927.  A new 26 room Lester Hotel located on the southwestern corner of Reynosa and Austin was completed late that same year.  While the hotel is off of today’s main street, at the time of its construction, the road to Gorman headed west down Reynosa and the road to Comanche headed east down Reynosa.

In June of 1932, Mrs. Jimmy Myers leased the hotel and changed its name to Hotel De Leon.

The hotel was eventually sold and became the York Hotel and was later acquired by Mrs. Valenta, her son Eddie Valenta and daughter Laura Miller who owned the Travelers Hotel.  It then operated as the Anthony Hotel starting in 1949.

After it ceased operation as a hotel, a nursing home opened in the building.  It has subsequently been converted to apartments.
