Beattie School

Beattie School

School Mascot: Bears

School Colors:  Originally red and gray but were changed to blue and white.

In 1907, a school was constructed in the Beattie Community replacing the Eureka School which had previously served the area.  The Eureka School building was sold and the money turned over to Beattie.

Bill Scott gave the land for the new building and he, Luther Auvenshine and John Welch constructed a two story building.  Two classrooms were on the lower floor and a single large room was on the second floor.  In 1908, the students of Eureka and one teacher Miss Nettie Smith moved to the new Beattie School.  She was joined by Miss Lily Brewer of Rising Star as the other teacher.  Brewer taught the first four grades and Smith the upper grades.

In 1915 Hickman school consolidated into Beattie and the teaching staff was increased to four.   The first two grades were taught at the Church of Christ.

The following year, the new school building pictured above opened.  It was built about a quarter mile north of the final school building.  It accommodated  eight classes at a time.

In 1928 both the Bibb School  and Suez merged into Beattie and were followed in 1931 with part of the Suez School coming to Beattie and the remainder going to Sidney.

In 1948 the Beattie High School students were transfered to Comanche.  At the close of school in 1953, two teachers, Mary Beaty and Opal Ross and the remaining pupils merged into Comanche.
