The school moved from Walkers Branch in 1899 and retained the name Theney (often spelled Theny) rather than the name Comyn used by the railroad.  This building predated the building on the right.

A bond election was held on May 5, 1924 to approve construction of this $30,000 school.  It had 9 classrooms and a Domestic Science hall.  A five hundred seat auditorium was located on the second floor.  Comyn consolidated into the De Leon and Dublin schools in 1953.

The entire school was on a field trip on the last day of school held in the Theney-Comyn district.  The following fall most of the district consolidated into De Leon with a few going to Dublin.

The only students we can identify are:  Benny Coan and Willie Holland front row left; Danny Phillips front row right; possibly Bobby Phillips second row left with Donald Coan immediately to his right and behind Benny.  Mrs. Robert Kay is the teacher middle left with the black collar and the teacher two to the right may be Mrs. Ripley.

Above:  The CHS boy’s and girls basketball teams probably in the mid 1930s.

Left:  Comyn School after it closed and was used by Caraways.  Right: The star water fountain visible in the center of the school building shown above.  A similar fountain was constructed on the east side of  South Ward (Elementary) in De Leon.
