J.R. GILMORE DRUG
DE LEON HANDBOOK
Dabneys
J.R. “Bob” Gilmore operated a drug store in De Leon from the mid 1880s until the late 1890s. His store was on the east side of Texas Avenue a little north of the midpoint between Reynosa and Gonzales about where Coy’s Tailor Shop was eventually located. He also owned a dry goods store in Rucker.
Gilmore was one of the original organizers and stockholders of the De Leon Free Press. Apparently after he retired he moved to the Grande Valley.
Left: It appears that J.F. Buchan used the letterhead of J.R. Gilmore Drug to provided payment instructions to the Texas Central Railroad on a land note in January 1894.
