HOTELS

Bragg Hotel

Several other hotels operated in De Leon over the years but no information has been located on them.

They include the Steakley Hotel which was located next to the depot, the Commercial Hotel operated in 1884 by a Mrs. John Deane, the Wilson Hotel, Davids (or David) Hotel and the M-K-T Hotel.  The Wilson and the M-K-T were on the north side of the tracks facing the depot.  The Wilson was at the northeast intersection of Almante and Fannin and actually was constructed in the right-of-way of both streets.  The M-K-T Hotel sat in the middle of Fannin at its intersection with Almante.  Where the David Hotel was located is unknown.  It operated during the oil boom and in February 1919 a Mrs. Shumway of Waco came to De Leon to operate the dining room in the hotel and the offices of a surveyor named M.C. Hess were located there.
