ANDERSON, JOHN

John Anderson is believed to be the first superintendent of the the De Leon Schools.  The photo appeared in the August 19, 1999 edition of De Leon’s Monitor with the caption “First Superintendent of De Leon Schools in 1899, probably served in that position for approximately 2 years.”

However, there is a problem at least with the dates.  According to James Daniel Easley who was hired as an assistant in the fall of 1899, a Mr. Lane was the superintendent and after he left in 1900, he was replaced by J.H. Wharton.  Mr. Anderson may have been hired in 1893 when De Leon became the second independent school district in the county.  Photo courtesy of Louise Sadberry.
